Visit to New Zealand

VISIT TO NEW ZEALAND

This week I will travel to New Zealand to meet with like-minded partners and further advance Australia’s trade relationships.

In Auckland I will attend the 7th meeting of the Commission of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).

The CPTPP is one of the most comprehensive trade deals ever concluded, eliminating 98 per cent of tariffs in a trade zone representing a combined GDP of $11.8 trillion.

I look forward to the conclusion of the United Kingdom’s CPTPP accession negotiations. The membership will also discuss next steps, including progressing a general review of the agreement, and its ongoing implementation.

The interest of a range of economies in joining the CPTPP demonstrates the significance of the Agreement and the benefits it offers, including common rules that reduce regulatory differences making it easier to do business across borders.

During my visit, I will also attend the Australia New Zealand Leadership Forum (ANZLF) in Wellington.

The ANZLF will highlight the 40th anniversary of the Australia-New Zealand Closer Economic Relations Trade Agreement which continues to support prosperity and growth in both economies.

I look forward to building on our trade and economic relationship with New Zealand to better respond to emerging challenges and opportunities.
